After 10 months of hard work (and too much money), the track car made its debut at Virginia International Raceway ("
VIR"). All-in-all the weekend was a success. I may post a video later, but for now, I'll just post some pictures and stories.
These photos are of my car, the #48
G-Money Racing BMW 325i. In true racing style, I need to thank my crew chief, Ted Lord, who helped with the suspension rebuild, and I need to thank Mats, age 6, and Anders, age 8, who have volunteered their time and skills to be the team's graphic designers and provide the
G-Money Racing stickers on the car.
I went to the track with a friend from work, Randy, who drives a 2000 BMW 328ci. Unfortunately, on Saturday, I spun out and left the track while trying to negotiate turn 3, which you can see on the
map. Luckily, I didn't hit anyone or anything. Randy spun out on turn 17a, and my instructor left the track near turn 10, so I wasn't alone.
The highlight of the weekend was on Sunday, when I earned my "solo" certification and drove without an instructor for the first time on-track.
